“This course focuses on the introduction to the principles of Chemistry: reaction stoichiometry and the mole concept, periodic properties of the elements, atomic and molecular structure, thermochemistry, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, and the properties of gases and condensed phases.” -UNE

This course is basis of everything Chemistry. It focuses mainly on reaction stoichiometry, moles, the periodic table, and chemical reactions. This course also goes into detail about the different phases such as gases, solids, and liquids. I find this class beneficial because it helps to understand things on a molecular level. I also find it helpful to be able to predict how something is going to react and why it will react in such a manner. These learning checkpoints can be seen in my Chemistry Lab write up about the optimum mole ratio. The purpose of that experiment was to find the optimum mole ratio of CO2 from the reaction of Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and acetic acid (HC2H3O2). The ability to predict the amount of product formed or determining the amount of reactants needed for a reaction is called stoichiometry. This experiment helped determine the amount of each product needed to complete the reaction and determine the limiting reactant.
